Abstract

Toxic optic neuropathy is a rare entity; it can lead to acute or chronic loss of vision. We report a case of Metronidazole induced toxic optic neuropathy in th a patient who underwent total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. On 5 day of Metronidazole therapy the patient developed bilateral diminution of vision; on examination we found the Best Corrected Visual Acquity (BCVA) was 6/36 and temporal disc pallor on Fundus examination. She was advised to discontinue the Metronidazole therapy, subsequently her vision improved. We highlight this case because of the unusual presentation of optic neuropathy with short term Metronidazole therapy.
