Abstract

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are the most widely used tools for screening of students in competitive exams and as a part of formative evaluation. The objectivity, ability to cover wide range of topics, assess large number of students in a short span of time have made MCQs the versatile tools of evaluation. However, in order to maintain quality of the examination system, reliability and validity of MCQs is of utmost importance. This technical paper is written with the objective to empower our medical colleagues, teachers working in medical colleges, in the science of constructing and validating MCQs. The paper discusses in brief the pre validation, parts of an MCQ and Post validation / ITEM analysis of MCQs.
