The Editorial Board of RGUHS Journal of Medical Sciences heartily welcomes Dr M K Ramesh, who assumed office as the Vice-Chancellor of our esteemed University, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) on 1st December 2021 after serving with distinction in various capacities in the field of Medical Education. It is an honour to us all that he is bringing the experience and wisdom of serving as the first President of Post-Graduate Medical Education Board of the National Medical Commission.

Hailing from the famous historical fortified town of Mayakonda (Davanagere District), he had his medical education at Mysore Medical College and Bangalore Medical College. After serving in the Health and Family Welfare Department of Government of Karnataka, he opted for teaching career in Medical Education Department.

With vast experience as an M.S in General Surgery and as an academician, he became Professor in the Department of Surgery in Bangalore Medical College & Research Institute.

Dr. Ramesh has conducted many clinical studies and has many publications to his credit in National and International Journals. He conducted an audit as the Principal Investigator for an antibiotic as Principal Investigator for USFDA. He was active in the speciality association, excelling as a dynamic Secretary (2006- 07) and President (2014-15) of the Surgical Society of Bangalore. He also served as the President of Karnataka State Autonomous Medical Institutions Teachers Association for 4 years.

He served in various academic bodies of RGUHS including the Board of Studies, Academic Council, Senate and Syndicate. This enabled him to provide exemplary service as an administrator of RGUHS, as the Registrar (Evaluation), and later, as acting Vice Chancellor of RGUHS. With rich academic and administrative experience, Dr Ramesh has assumed the helm of the University. He has always shown very keen interest in the promoting research and publications of the University. The Editorial team of RJMS wishes him all success and take the University to greater heights.
