Abstract

Materials are considered to be Smart when they possess the ability to change their physical properties in a specific manner in response to specific stimuli. In this paper, we discuss various materials in dentistry which possess “Smartness” as they have various properties which can be altered in controlled fashion by stimuli such as stress, temperature, moisture, pH, electric or magnetic field.

As we progress towards innovation and to improve technology, we should utilize all the materials which have smartness by chance and also design existing materials to incorporate smartness in them.
