“Nano technology in medicine is going to have a major impact on survival of the human race.”

The word ‘Nanotechnology’ was termed by Norio Taniguchi. It is the science of using nanostructured materials in different areas of research for diagnosis, treatment and improvement of dental health. The rationale is that these structures interact with their surroundings, deliver specific molecules or drugs and actively direct cellular events.
Future research in this field should be encouraged as its true potential has still not been expressed. Few of the applications in dentistry include, use of nanorobots, 3D printing, use of nanoparticles and enzymes in toothpastes and mouthwashes for reducing dentinal hypersensitivity, use of nanocomposites and silver nanoparticles in operative dentistry, and in prosthodontics for improving the properties of existing products. Thus, these materials used along with nanotechnology assist in exploring the application of nano dental materials in different fields of dentistry.
