The reputation of any journal is reviewed by how many indexing services favor that particular journal. A journal is considered to be indexed if it is validated in a local database, regional database, or in any continental database. It also reflects the scientific quality of the journal and articles. History of indexing was found in as early as 12th century by Hebrew literature. since then, Index Medicus has been the most popularly used among the scientific journals. Over the years, many popular indexed services were developed like PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, EBSCO etc. In general, journals are included in two types of public and specialized indexes. The indexation of journal depends on some basic requirements such as an International standard serial number (ISSN), Digital object identifiers (DOI), Publishing schedule and copy right policy.
Indexing is important as it provides-ACCESSIBILITY as it serves the main purpose of a journal to a wide group of audience and for academic purposes. REPUTATION, as it is accessible to large number of academic purposes it can be considered as reliable source for high quality publication. READERSHIP, every researcher will look for well - established database in his/her field as it is easy to read. which increases the readership of the journal.
