Abstract

Sthoulya is the one among the major diseases that falls under the category of santarpanottha vyadhi, which starts its pathology from the vitiation of kapha dosha, rasa and medo dhatu. This condition can lead to many other diseases if the underlining pathology is not treated properly. Hence it gains major significance in the medical point of view.

Sthoulya is considered as the major global disease owing to its prevalence in both developed and developing countries. The changes in ee sty'e With life style with sedentary habits and fast food has affected the statistical data of obesity significantly in recent years. Along with these the genetic factors aslo plays a role in causing Sthoulya, As it leads to increased morbidrty and mortality, it is important to define, understand its different causes and  appropriately. With this regard, the present paper analyzes the different pathogenesis of Sthoulya under both Ayurvedic and Modern perspective giving due consideration to its causative factors.

The present paper concentrated the following points; 

  • Ahara — Viharatmaka nidana in the manifestabon of sthoulya.
  • Beeja dosha nidana in the of sth0Jtya. karana s in the manifestation of Sthoulya.
  • Manasika karana s in the manifestation of Sthoulya.

Modern perspective;

  • Increased energy input and decreased energy output.
  • Genetic factors in the manifestation of obesity.
  • Psychological factors in the manifestation of obesity.
